The signs are all around you! FESTEVIL, a celebration and exploration in honor of our least frequent and most evil holiday, will attempt to wake the dead, deaden the living, and smooth our passage from the Rapture into the Rupture, or whatever might be next. The night's activities and performances, both local and virtual, feature hair-raising performances and presentations from over 35 of the Bay Area's most renowned evil-doers, sound artists, musicians, and storytellers.

Some of the night's activities will include a Drum Machine Circle around a burning drumset, a small fleet of Stoner Fantasy Vans with live performers visiting other 666 shows including stops at Blank Space and Lobot, Evil Show & Tell stories, live score by a 30 piece ensemble for a very evil dual projection of Faces of Death and Sound of Music, Morse Code Ensembles doing Misfits songs, and a truly glorious and evil finale inspiring even the most seasoned veterans of evil things.

Featuring performances by Jared Blum, CJ Reaven Borosque, Joshua G. •7;00 pm - 18 (?) pc ensemble performs graphic score for 6 guit, 6 dr, 6 elec
•7;45 pm - Winter is Coming (Tom Messmer, Brian Hillebrandt, and Derek Monypeny)
plays DOOM covers of Venom and other metal bands ... with an electric dulcimer and
distorted psaltery! ))
•8;05 pm - return of van withs performers and they join each other for
an outdoor / mobile trio / quartet while still in vans, then next
performers depart

•8;40 pm - evilest film (no more than 80 minutes long) with live
soundtrack from XXX evil big evil band (everyone interested)
•9;40 pm - evil show & tell: Sam Gould (Red 76) brings tidings of
joyous evil from the northwest
•9;50 pm - return of the vans from round 2, outdoor vansemble
10;15 - steve lambert's evil show and tell stories on Edward
Bernay's role in the creation of the public relations industry
•10;35 pm - SL's Morse Code Ensemble (3 of 3)
•10;50 pm - mitch cope in person: a living example of the effects of
the evils of detroit
•10;45 pm - drum machine circle around a sacrificial burning drumset
(or similar effigy)

thanks for all the enthusiasm, ideas, questions and concerns, all of
which have and continue to help make the festevil better and better
and of course more and more evil!

here's a crapload of info, please read throughly, call or write with
any questions!

1. pr blurbage to follow for mailing to your peeps, this is obviously
not the official press release, just a schedule and notes for our
planning purposes, feel free to refer people / press to
http://jonbrumit.com/festevil starting tomorrow

2. we have a vancouver, tokyo, and a few other festevils happening in
conjunction with ours! and scheduled stops so far for the vans include
Blankspace (gallery on san pablo with a 666 show) and Lobot (with a
666 noise-a-thon), with other stops in discussion. 21 Grand has a pa,
and the vans (3 so far) have their own powered soundsystems ready for
1/4 inch or rca inputs

3. so here's the situation / strategy / night's events thus far ...
potentially in this order ... but if there are any conflicts of
schedule / impossibilities etc please let me know as soon as you can

tentative schedule of events ... still falling into place! ....
very similar to the schedule that's been online for a while but everything's been
given an actual duration which if nothing else makes planning easier
at this moment ... of course the evening will deviate radically from
the schedule, some things will take or be given more time, and others
will of course get moved, shortened, or dropped ... depending on acts
of a loving / punishing god and / or a malicious / benevolent evil
spirit which all move in mysterious ways


notes:

a. bringing your own submixers, amps, instrument cables, and some
adapters is strongly encouraged but not necessary, we will inevitably
need to work together to make sure everyone's plugged in at different
times during the evening!

b. morse code ensembles: our fearless morse code interpreter and morse
code drummer sarah lockhart may or may not have specific
instrumentation for these, we will see, Sarah Lockhart
<21grand@21grand.org> if you have questions or requests! you can opt
in or we may try to bribe you with secret candy decoder rings!

c. graphic score for 6 trios is pretty clear so far (although i
anticipate needing more players due to cancellations), this is the
largest i've done yet, although perhaps it might be some consolation
to you that i have conducted groups of up to 100 people before making
music with their feet, laughter, change, chips and soda, cell phones,
furniture, choking sounds, and swear words !!

d. the film improv sessions (both the very short and the
feature-length dual projection), drum machine circles, and improvising
pentagrams (and various other events) are to be performed by those
present and suitably equipped if they so choose!

e. drum machine circle - the burning effigy (might be a burning
drumset but likely not something actually very valuable!) will in part
give us something to circle around, to play in response to, as well as
provide an organic timeframe during which we work as an ensemble with
various strategies (to be discussed by us before we begin!)

f. improvising pentagram will be the drum machine circle joined by 5
'points' of people / groups which comprise a larger ensemble for a
glorious and truly evil finale

f. evil show and tell: these segments of the program are designed to
1. give us other forms of evil via beautiful and engaging storytelling
/ slideshows / powerpoint presentations 2. give everyone a break from
non-stop music and 3. provide relief for set-up and break-down for
various performers needing to regroup or move around etc  .... if you
need video or slide projector / monitors / sound support / live
ambient sounds please let me know!

g. there are 2 Fs, and thusly 2 Gs as well

g. i am poooor and am using my own money to pay for gas for stoner
vans, to hire a very respectable recordist at a very affordable rate
for the entire evening (unless he goes on strike in self-defense!),
and for various other media needs for videotaping the various events
to compile a documentary of the festivities
h. although the event is basically a series of thematic structured
improvs, i'm willing to and/or likely to direct / shape / color things
from time to time with hand vues and or drawings / written notes

i. volume / intensity alone is NOT the desired effect as there are
vocals and strings and other non-electric instrumentation requested /
invited / involved, so we will use these inherent differences in
dynamics / limitations / qualities to help shape the pieces and craft
something hopefully uncharted, scary, thoughtful, intense, unexpected,
and overall truly evil and / or non-evil (if you wish to interpret it
that way)

jam sessions? opportunity to overplay / overpower / stop listening?
improv free for all? volume fest? of course with so many players this
scenario is very likely and wioll of course be occasionally
encouraged, but these moments of
sheer-brazen-group-self-destruct-o-matic will be cued and always with
respect to the acoustic and unamplified folk! we have to look out for
our non-electric friends! (but imagine a horror film with no struggle
for survival? or no thriller without some amount of uncertainty!?)
again, the wall of sound possibilities / scenarios within each
separate event are to be at very important moments and will be cued or
suggested, as will be the returns to a general healthy listening
environment with respect for everybody around us!!

j. you all know this i just feel compelled to let you know that i know
it too as your loving and thoughtful evil organizer! i am likely to
help shape / color / etc some of the pieces but with simple hand cues
or other written or drawn notes made clear or evident as we all load
in. additionally i would hope you all are interested in the inevitable
chaos that will ensue from the groupings and strategies on the night's
schedule, but the goal again is not chaos all the time, nor is it
lower-case all the time, it is simply everything at the right time for
maximum evil and or non-evil should you wish to interpret it this way

k. i will include everyone if possible and encourage you to invite
other performers suitably equipped for evil collaboration ... and i've
already invited press and alerted my contacts in that realm but you
are of course welcome to encourage any of your people to visit us
during the event as well, and although i do love press this event
should clearly be seen as an event that even if totally under the
radar will be mind melting and overall a great deal of fun!

this event will be feature several wonderful and evil things:

2. improvised / conducted soundtrack for whatever film we decide is most evil (faces of death and sound of music simultaneously ?)
3. evil show and tell (ongoing through the evening), steve lambert, sam gould, mitch cope
4. solo performances of metal songs by lisa mezzacappa and doom and death metal covers by an electric appalachian folk metal band
5 . performance of a new composition for 6 hardcore / noise trios (6 each: guit / dr / elec)
6. morse code ensembles by sarah lockhart feturing a rendition of the misfits 'i want your skull' via dashes and dots, scary!
6 . drum machine circles around a sacrificial burning drumset featuring matt davignon, lisa mezzacappa, and many others!
